The Gombe State Police Command has announced the arrest of four individuals suspected of stealing railway track sleepers on May 29, 2024, following a tip from local residents.
According to a press release by ASP Buhari Abdullahi, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Gombe State Police Command, the suspects confessed to the crime during questioning.
The police apprehended the suspects, identified as Ibrahim Yauta (30), Kasimu Umar (26), Yusuf Mohammed (32), and Shu’aibu Saidu (age not provided), while they were transporting 42 railway sleepers in a truck.
They revealed that Shu’aibu Saidu was the intended buyer of the stolen sleepers.
One of the suspects reportedly admitted to stealing railway metals on seven prior occasions. He claimed to have sold the stolen materials for prices ranging from N2,000 to N4,000.
The Gombe State Police Command is urging the public to assist law enforcement by providing credible information to help combat crime in the state.
