Gombe State has once again earned national recognition for fiscal excellence, ranking 5th in the 2025 Half-Year Budget Performance Report released by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), a global non-profit organisation promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
This is contained in a statement on Friday issued on October 24, 2025, by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe.
According to the ICIR report, Gombe recorded a 39.5% budget implementation score as of June 2025, outperforming over 32 sub-nationals, including some with larger federal allocations.
The report attributed the stateโs strong performance to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahayaโs reform-driven leadership, which has positioned Gombe as a model of transparent and disciplined financial management.
Through initiatives such as the Treasury Single Account (TSA), Gombe Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), and the Open Budget Portal, the administration has strengthened budget monitoring, blocked financial leakages, and improved public access to fiscal data.
Governor Yahaya reaffirmed his administrationโs commitment to fiscal accountability, saying, โOur goal is to ensure that every naira spent delivers measurable impact. We are committed to building a fiscally responsible, economically vibrant, and socially inclusive Gombe where transparency drives trust and accountability ensures progress.โ
This latest ranking follows Gombeโs 2nd-place position in BudgITโs 2025 Subnational Transparency Assessment, where the state scored 99 out of 100 points for the timely publication of key fiscal documents and the maintenance of an updated e-procurement portal.
The ICIR recognition further consolidates Gombeโs reputation as a benchmark for fiscal responsibility, with its reform-based governance model continuing to inspire confidence and deliver tangible results for citizens.
