The Gombe State Executive Council (SEC), chaired by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved over ₦6.5 billion for key infrastructure projects and endorsed the 2026 budget proposal for presentation to the State House of Assembly on Thursday, November 13.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Information and Culture Mijinyawa Ardo Tilde said the Council also approved the establishment of a Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge Steering Committee to enhance efficiency and accountability in the state’s healthcare system.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Salihu Baba Alkali, explained that the 2026 draft budget was shaped by citizens’ engagements and consultations.
“The draft budget reflects the collective aspirations of our citizens and aligns with the vision of Governor Yahaya,” Alkali said.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Habu Dahiru, announced the creation of the new committee following Gombe’s recognition in 2024 as the most innovative state and second-best performer in the National Leadership Challenge Initiative, earning a $400,000 grant.
“This committee will strengthen health governance and improve service delivery from the grassroots,” Dahiru noted.
Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, revealed that ₦1.337 billion was approved for the construction of a new Deputy Governor’s Office and ₦3.515 billion for completing five mega colleges across the state.
“The cost adjustment reflects design expansion and inflationary trends,” Kallamu clarified.
He added that ₦1.275 billion was approved for a modern Gombe State Fire Service Headquarters, while ₦461.8 million will fund a new Divisional Police Station in Shehu Abubakar District.
“A befitting fire service complex will enhance emergency response and urban safety,” he said.
Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Zubair Muhammad Umar cautioned against attacks on security operatives and urged residents to sustain peace.
“Governor Yahaya will not tolerate intimidation of security agents. Gombe’s peace must be protected by all,” Umar warned.
