Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has begun the rehabilitation and upgrade of the Lafiagi Township Stadium, marking the first major facelift of the facility in decades.

The project, approved by the State Executive Council in September 2025, includes an expanded pavilion, natural grass pitch, solar-powered borehole, backup power supply, and water sprinklers.

According to Akeweje Olayinka Fafoluyi, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor, the move underscores AbdulRazaqโ€™s commitment to using sports as a tool for youth development and community engagement.

โ€œThe Governor wants to make Kwara a hub for emerging talents. This stadium upgrade is part of that vision,โ€ Fafoluyi said in a statement on November 1, 2025.

He added that the pitch will meet national and international football standards, positioning Lafiagi as a potential venue for major sporting events.

Residents and sports enthusiasts across Kwara have applauded the development, describing it as a timely effort to revive grassroots sports and restore community pride.

The Lafiagi Township Stadium, once a local landmark, has long suffered neglect until the current administrationโ€™s intervention under the #IseNtesiwaju initiative.
