Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, appealed to business owners to align their prices with the nationwide decline in commodity costs
The governor made the appeal when he hosted leaders and members of the Gombe business community, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to an Iftar dinner at the Government House on March 10th, 2025.
According to Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General (Press Affairs) Government House, Gombe, in a statement, Governor Yahaya expressed concern that despite falling prices across the country, some traders in Gombe State continue to sell goods at inflated rates, placing undue burden on citizens facing economic hardship.
“I urge our business community to reflect on the essence of this holy month, which is marked by empathy, fairness, and compassion,” he stated.

“It is important that we move with the current market realities by reducing the prices of commodities accordingly. This will surely ease the economic pressure on our people.”
He thanked the labour unions and business community for their ongoing support, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of their members and fostering business growth.
Comrade Yusuf Aish, Chairman of the NLC in Gombe State, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his consistent engagement with citizens, particularly during Ramadan.
“This season provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships and address socio-economic issues,” he said.
Representatives of the business community, Alhaji Uba Abdullahi and Alhaji Ibrahim Jikan Shehu, commended the Governor’s “open-door policy” and “inclusive approach to governance.” They pledged their continued support and collaboration in ensuring fair pricing to alleviate hardship for the masses.
Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, noted that the Iftar was the third in a series of public Iftars hosted by the Governor during Ramadan.
The event was attended by Deputy Governor Manassah Daniel Jatau, Chief of Staff Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa Kari, Head of Service Ahmed Kasimu Abdullahi, commissioners, special advisers, and other government officials.
