Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has presented a ₦1.368 trillion budget proposal for 2026 to the State House of Assembly on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
According to a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the proposal allocates 68% (₦934.6bn) to capital projects and 32% (₦433.4bn) to recurrent spending, one of the state’s highest capital-to-recurrent ratios.
Yusuf said the spending plan reflects his administration’s priorities. “These allocations show our determination to invest in human capital, protect our people, and build the foundation for sustainable growth,” he said.
Education takes the largest share with ₦405.3bn (30%), followed by infrastructure at ₦346.2bn (25%) and health at ₦212.2bn (16%).
Other areas receiving significant funding include agriculture, security, commerce, water resources, environment, tourism, women and youth development, and support for persons with special needs.
Yusuf described the budget as “a bold but realistic roadmap” aligned with citizens’ aspirations and the state’s long-term development needs.
He urged lawmakers to ensure timely passage of the bill, noting that legislative oversight and cooperation are key to delivering tangible results for residents.
