Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, on Friday, October 3, 2025, endorsed the introduction of the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine, set to be rolled out nationwide this October by the Federal Government in partnership with Niger State and development partners.
In a statewide broadcast from Minna, Bago said measles and rubella pose serious risks, including blindness, deafness, brain damage, heart defects, and even death in children.
โThe MR vaccine is safe, effective, and will protect our children from these preventable diseases,โ the governor said.
He urged parents, guardians, and carers to ensure that every child aged 9 months to 14 years is vaccinated during the campaign.
He added that the vaccine will be included in routine immunisation after the campaign, administered at 9 months and again at 15 months.
โThe well-being of our citizens, especially children, remains my top priority,โ Bago said.
โWe are committed to making the vaccine accessible in all health facilities across Niger State.โ
He also appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, healthcare workers, and community influencers to support the campaign so that no child is left behind.
