Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide urgent relief to residents of Mafa town in Tarmuwa Local Government Area who were displaced following attacks by suspected non-state armed groups.
In a swift response to the governor’s directive, SEMA, led by its Commissioner, on Friday distributed food and non-food items to over 500 registered displaced persons, representing approximately 2,300 individuals.
The relief materials were distributed in collaboration with local government chairmen.
As part of the government’s efforts to reintegrate the displaced persons into their communities, SEMA has linked them with community leaders.
The state government is also working tirelessly to restore peace and security in the affected areas to enable the safe and dignified return of the displaced residents.
The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Mohammed Goje has urged community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies. He emphasized that maintaining the relative peace enjoyed in Yobe State is a collective responsibility.
Relief items distributed to each household include maize flour, pasta, mosquito nets, rechargeable torches, toilet soap, bar soap, cooking pots, kettles, buckets, nylon mats, and blankets.
A total of 475 households across four communities have been affected by the displacement. These include 275 households in Mafa, 95 in Bangaro, 65 in Ngoyo, and 40 in Billiri.
The displaced families are currently being sheltered in various locations in Babban Gida Town, the headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
