Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revamping the healthcare sector with a surprise inspection of Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.
According to a statement released by the State Government on Sunday, the governor’s visit aimed to assess the state of the hospital’s infrastructure, interact with medical staff, and issue immediate directives for improvements.
He stressed the importance of functional public health institutions in improving the well-being of citizens.
“We are determined to modernise this facility so that our people won’t have to travel long distances for quality care,” Governor Idris said after touring the wards and laboratories.
“This hospital must serve as a centre of excellence in public healthcare delivery.”
He instructed that outdated equipment be replaced and critical infrastructure upgraded to meet the growing demands for specialised services, including emergency, maternal, and paediatric care.
The governor also listened to concerns raised by hospital personnel, assuring them of his administration’s support.
The visit reflects his broader development strategy focused on boosting human capital through improvements in healthcare, education, and social welfare.
“A healthy population is the backbone of any thriving society,” he added.
State officials say the upgrade will reduce patient referrals to other states and enhance Kebbi’s capacity to respond to health emergencies locally.
