Team Gwoza has advanced to the semi-finals of the UNDP Peace and Unity Games after defeating Team Damboa 5–4 on penalties following a 1–1 draw in Gwoza.
The details were confirmed in a statement issued on December 2, 2025, by Alhaji Bura Mustapha, Executive Secretary of the Borno State Sports Council, speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Youths, Sports and Poverty Alleviation.
The match, played at the Government Day Secondary School field, drew a large crowd as the two sides met in the Gwoza zonal fixture of the 27-local-government competition organised by UNDP in partnership with the Borno State Government.
Damboa took the lead in the 32nd minute after a quick exchange of passes, ending the first half ahead. Gwoza equalised in the 73rd minute with a powerful long-range strike, forcing the game into penalties.
Gwoza converted five spot kicks, while Damboa missed two. One Gwoza player also missed his attempt.
Alhaji Bura Mustapha praised the players for their conduct, saying the competition “shows the level of discipline, cooperation and unity our youths can demonstrate.”

He commended UNDP and the Ministry of Youths and Sports for “promoting peace and unity, especially at the grassroots.”
The tournament continues with the Bama zone fixture between FC Bama United and FC Banki.
