Honesty Pays: Gombe Gov’t Rewards Teacher for Returning Lost N300,000

The Gombe State Government has rewarded a teacher who returned a lost sum of ₦300,000 that he found during a recent capacity-building workshop for teachers in the area.

The government also announced its commitment to rewarding teachers who demonstrate excellence, honesty, and trustworthiness in their duties.

This was revealed by the Hon. Commissioner of Education, Prof. Aishatu Umar Maigari, during a meeting with the Head Teacher of Fage Primary School in the Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area, Mallam Abdullahi Ibrahim, who returned the money.

Prof. Aishatu Maigari presented Mallam Abdullahi Ibrahim with a commendation letter on behalf of the state government and its people. 

She also gave him an undisclosed sum of money in recognition of his “outstanding trustworthiness and high level of patriotism”, displayed “despite the current economic hardships”.

The Commissioner described Ibrahim as a role model and pledged to further reward him professionally for his honesty and moral discipline. 

She also directed that a billboard with the teacher’s picture be erected in front of the school “to serve as a constant reminder to pupils of that school that honesty is still the best policy.”

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Babaji Babadidi, represented by Board Member Dr Gambo Adamu Aliyu, acknowledged the teacher’s moral discipline as a “teacher par excellence” and urged other teachers in the state to emulate him.

Responding, the education secretary of the Yamaltu Deba Local Education Authority, Usman Abubakar, expressed gratitude to the state government for honouring Abdullahi Ibrahim in recognition of his “honesty, integrity and positive heart in public service”.
