The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of specialised police tactical assets to Plateau State in response to the ongoing attacks and killings that have plagued communities since March 28, 2025.
This is contained in a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
This decisive action aims to restore peace, ensure the safety of residents, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The IGP has tasked the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations (DIG DOPs), Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to lead and coordinate this critical intervention.
Reinforcements being deployed include highly trained tactical personnel, advanced drones for surveillance, Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), units of the Police Mobile Force, helicopters, and specialised platoons from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
These resources will be strategically used in special operations to curb the incessant attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) and surrounding communities, which have tragically resulted in numerous deaths.
The recent surge in violence began on March 28, 2025, with a brutal attack in Bokkos that resulted in fatalities and injuries.
This incident marked the start of a series of attacks that have claimed scores of lives, leaving communities in fear.
“This decisive action underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to restoring peace, ensuring the safety and security of all residents, and bringing perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice,” stated ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
DIG Kwazhi arrived in Plateau State on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, and paid a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang. During the meeting, DIG Kwazhi conveyed the IGP’s condolences to the affected families and the people of Plateau State.
“During this meeting, DIG Kwazhi conveyed the IGP’s sincere condolences to the affected families and communities, as well as to the entire people of Plateau State,” Adejobi noted.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to assess the situation and collaboratively develop long-term solutions to the violence.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to working with the Plateau State Government, community leaders, security agencies, and other stakeholders to restore lasting peace and stability in the region.
The Force urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and provide any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation and peace efforts.
