Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced a new initiative to fast-track rural development projects by introducing a competitive framework for local government chairmen.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Tuesday.
The governor, speaking during the Hawan Nasarawa celebrations at the Government House, outlined the plan, which will require local government leaders to present and execute development projects within set deadlines.

“We have introduced a competition where every local government chairman must present and execute development projects within a stipulated timeframe.
Once a chairman submits a viable project, funds will be released immediately. Those who deliver on time will be allowed to take on multiple projects,” he stated.
Governor Yusuf also issued a warning to underperforming chairmen, stressing that his administration will not tolerate delays in project execution.
The announcement came in response to Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s call for increased financial support for local governments.
The governor assured the Emir that his administration is committed to prioritising rural development and will support well-planned projects.
The initiative aims to encourage healthy competition among local government chairmen, leading to more efficient service delivery and impactful development across Kano State.
