Kano Governor Donates N3 Billion Land Plot to North West Development Commission

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has donated a prime 1.9-hectare plot of land, valued at a staggering N3 billion, to the newly established North West Development Commission (NWDC). 

The land, strategically carved from the premises of the Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV), will serve as the commission’s permanent headquarters in Kano.

The gesture, announced on Thursday following a meeting between Governor Yusuf and the NWDC’s management team at the Government House, underscores the state’s commitment to facilitating the commission’s swift operational launch.

“This land is our contribution to ensuring the NWDC hits the ground running,” stated Governor Yusuf, as relayed by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

“We understand the urgency of the challenges facing our region, and we are determined to provide the necessary support.”

In addition to the land donation, the governor pledged to provide the NWDC with temporary office accommodation and oversee necessary renovations, ensuring the agency can commence its vital work without delay.

Governor Yusuf expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the commission’s establishment, applauding the National Assembly for its rapid approval.

“President Tinubu’s intervention is timely and crucial,” he remarked. “The North West is grappling with a confluence of crises— insecurity, hunger, and malnutrition. The NWDC is a beacon of hope.”

He urged the commission’s leadership to prioritise projects that address the region’s pressing socioeconomic, social service, and environmental challenges.

“We need tangible, impactful projects that will uplift our communities,” he stressed. “The people of the Northwest are counting on you.”

NWDC Chairman, Alhaji Isma’il Lawal Abdullahi Yakawada, acknowledged the governor’s generosity and assured that the commission would work diligently to deliver meaningful interventions across the region.

“Our visit was to foster a strong partnership with the Kano State Government,” he said. “We are committed to working within our mandate to drive positive change.”

Upon visiting the allocated site, Managing Director of the Commission, Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji, expressed his appreciation, saying, “The Governor’s kind gesture, providing this land free of cost and all charges, is a testament to his commitment to the development of the North West.”
