Kano Governor Yusuf Promises Action on #EndBadGovernance Protest Report

,

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has vowed to implement the recommendations of the inquiry committee investigating the #EndBadGovernance protest that took place on August 1, 2024.

This was disclosed by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor’s spokesman, in a statement on Tuesday.

Governor Yusuf received the committee’s report from its chairman, Justice Lawan Wada (rtd.), during the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting.

He also announced that a white paper would be issued, naming those responsible for sponsoring and carrying out the violent protest.

The protest resulted in the deaths of 10 people and critical injuries to seven others, with over N11 billion worth of public and private property destroyed, according to the report.

“I have confidence in the integrity and professionalism of the committee members,” Governor Yusuf stated.

“They were selected based on merit, and I am optimistic that they have done their job without bias.” He emphasised that his administration did not interfere with the committee’s six-month investigation.

The governor promised that the government would take appropriate action based on the report’s findings to deter future violence and destruction.

He commended the committee for their work and indicated they may be called upon again for their expertise.

Justice Wada, in presenting the report, said that the committee visited all affected areas and consulted with stakeholders to gather a complete picture of the protest’s impact.

The governor’s pledge to implement the report’s recommendations signals a strong move towards accountability and justice in Kano State.
