The Kano State Government and the Republic of Guinea-Bissau have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in agriculture, education, culture, tourism, and human capital development.
This was announced in a statement issued on Thursday, October 23, 2025, by the governorโs spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, following a high-level meeting in Bissau.
The meeting, led by the National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peopleโs Party (NNPP), Dr Ajuji Ahmed, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, featured a courtesy visit to Guinea-Bissauโs President, Umaro Sissoco Embalรณ.
According to the statement, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to partnerships that promote job creation, youth empowerment, and skills development.
โThe collaboration will focus on practical sectors such as GSM repairs, fish farming, and the cashew and mango value chains to boost productivity and employment opportunities,โ Bature said.
As part of the agreement, Kano State has offered 50 scholarships to citizens of Guinea-Bissau to study English and Hausa languages in one of its tertiary institutions.
The initiative aims to strengthen cultural and linguistic exchange between the two governments.
President Embalรณ commended Governor Yusufโs visionary leadership and expressed his intention to visit Kano, revealing that he had directed his Minister of Defence to lead a delegation to the state to explore more areas of partnership.
The Kano delegation included Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Disabilities; Hajiya Sadiya Abdu Bichi, Special Adviser on Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities; Arc. Danjuma Zarewa, former DG of Urban Beautification; and Hon. Muhammad Sani Gumel.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reaffirmed his administrationโs resolve to build strategic international alliances that enhance trade, cultural exchange, and human capital development for the benefit of Kano citizens.
