The Kano State Police have apprehended four suspected bandits and recovered a cache of weapons and a substantial sum of cash.
According to a statement by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer, Kano State Police Command, the arrests, made on March 6th, 2025, step in curbing the infiltration of banditry into the state.
The statement explains that a team of police detectives, led by SP Ahmad Abdullahi, Officer-in-Charge of Jar Kuka Out-Post, arrested the suspects at Chula Filling Station in Hotoro Quarters, Kano, at approximately 2:00 pm.
“This operation was based on credible intelligence that the suspects were in Kano to purchase an AK-47 rifle,” a police spokesperson confirmed.

The arrested individuals were identified as Shukurana Salihu, 25; Rabi’u Dahiru, 35; and Ya’u Idris, 30, all from Katsina State, along with Muktar Sani, 30, from Hotoro Quarters, Kano.
A subsequent search of the suspects led to the recovery of a significant arsenal, including three locally made revolver pistols, twelve live rounds of ammunition, four cartridges, twenty-four bearing balls, four knives, a cutlass, and suspected charms.
“The team also recovered a cash sum of one million, twenty-eight thousand, eight hundred naira (N1,028,800),” the spokesperson added.
“These arrests demonstrate our unwavering commitment to tackling the threat of banditry in Kano State,” a senior police officer commented.
“We are determined to prevent the spread of these criminal activities within our borders.”
The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the full extent of their activities and any potential links to other criminal networks,” the spokesperson stated.
The Kano State Police Command has expressed gratitude to the public for their continued support and cooperation in maintaining law and order.
