A joint security operation by the Kano State Government Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has arrested 28 suspected thugs (Yan Daba) and the seizure of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs.
According to the Committee’s PRO, Hon. Com., Min. of Information and Internal Affairs, Kano State, the operations were carried out between March 3rd and 13th, 2025, aimed to maintain peace during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Task Force, comprising personnel from the Police, DSS, NDLEA, NSCDC, Correctional Service, Immigration Service, and Vigilante groups, conducted operations at strategic locations within Kano Metropolis, following intelligence reports of planned thuggery-related activities.
“These joint security operations were crucial in preventing disruptions during Ramadan,” a Task Force spokesperson stated.
Recovered items include 283 parcels and 14 wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa, a cutlass, three scissors, a pointed iron, two bottles of “suck and die, 13 packets of “Knockout” firecrackers, and a rubber solution.
“The suspects have been charged in Chief Magistrate Court Number 12, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) for prosecution,” the spokesperson confirmed.
To ensure a peaceful Ramadan, the Task Force has reiterated the Kano State Government’s ban on all forms of traditional performance “Tashe,” which are often associated with thuggery.
The use of firecrackers or bangers is also strictly prohibited. “Violators will be dealt with according to the law,” the spokesperson warned.
Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, Ph.D., Chairman of the Task Force Committee, expressed appreciation for the officers’ commitment and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
“We appreciate the dedication of our officers and call on law-abiding citizens to assist us in creating a safer Kano State,” he stated.
