The Kano State Joint Task Force Committee on Security Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation, under the leadership of Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, has continued its operations against thuggery and substance abuse, resulting in the arrest of 31 suspects.
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa Kano State Police Command ppro disclosed in a statement released on May 16, 2025, that the task force detailed that the “intelligence-led targeted operations” were conducted between May 10 and 14, 2025, at known criminal hideouts and black spots across several areas.
These areas include Dorayi, Ja’in, Sharada, Unguwar Dabai, Dukawa, Kabuga, Kofar Mata, and neighbouring communities.
According to the statement, the operations led to the apprehension of “twenty-five (25) suspected thugs” and “six (6) suspected drug dealers”.

The task force also recovered a cache of illicit items, including four (4) Dane guns, nine (9) knives and cutlasses, three (3) clubs (Gora) and three and a half (3ยฝ) parcels and wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis sativa (Wiwi), as well as one hundred and seventy-three (173) pieces of suspected ecstasy tablets and other suspected intoxicants.
The statement emphasised the arrest of “notorious thugs” from Dorayi Quarters, including individuals identified as Dan Abba, Bola, Baka Kashi, Ramos, Abba Maciji, and Abdul Baki.
“All the twenty-five (25) suspected thugs arrested have been charged to Magistrate Court Number (16), Zangeru Road, Kano, and remanded,” the statement said.

The six (6) suspected drug dealers, including a “notorious” Rabi’u Hamza, have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
The task force highlighted the significance of the operation in Dorayi Quarters, stating, “No doubt, this successful operation that led to the identification and arrest of the insecurity arrowheads in Dorayi Quarters will bring a lasting solution to the over two decades of thuggery-related conflicts in their area.”
The committee described the operation’s success as a “milestone achievement” in the ongoing efforts to combat thuggery and substance abuse in Kano State.

The statement reiterated that the committee, comprising “combined security agencies and government functionaries”, is dedicated to “sanitising the streets of Kano and restoring peace to the communities.”
“The Kano State Joint Task Force Committee remains steadfast and resolute in its mission to create a safer, drug-free and peaceful environment for the benefit of all the inhabitants in the state,” the statement concluded.
