Katsina Gov’t Unveils Massive Multi-Sector Projects, Approves N5.33bn Power Boost

The Katsina State Executive Council has approved a series of major economic, healthcare, education, water, religious, and agricultural initiatives aimed at expanding development across the state. 

The approvals were announced on 26 November 2025 by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.

The decisions were taken during the 17th Regular Council Meeting chaired by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda at the General Muhammadu Buhari House.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr Bala Salisu Zango, said the new approvals reflect the administration’s commitment to “people-centred development under the Building Your Future agenda”.

Other officials who joined him included senior commissioners and heads of key agencies.

The Council approved ₦500 million for KASEDA to support nano and small businesses under the Cooperative Entrepreneurship Development scheme.

“This programme will empower more than 10,000 people across rural communities,” Zango said.

To sustain the clean water supply, the Council approved the procurement of water treatment chemicals for the State Water Board.

In the health sector, it endorsed the renovation of the General Hospital, Kankara, and the procurement of 15 intensive-care ambulances under the SEMSAS project. Sixty-eight sets of hospital equipment will also be supplied to newly upgraded primary health care centres statewide.

For education, the Council approved contracts for 38 new Islamiyya schools, repairs of 10 damaged primary schools in each LGA, and digital infrastructure for the new Model Secondary School, Radda.

An upgrade to the students’ hostel at the old Psychiatric Hospital, used by the School of Nursing, was also approved.

On agriculture, the government approved the Community-Based Seed Production Programme to train 700 youths as certified seed producers. “This will boost food security and strengthen rural livelihoods,” the Commissioner for Agriculture said.

The Council also approved the purchase of 1,100 BAJAJ motorcycles to enhance mobility for community development officers.

To cushion economic hardship, 120,000 bags of assorted grains will be purchased for distribution across all 361 wards.

Additionally, the state will invest ₦5.33 billion to increase its equity in KEDCO from 15% to 17%, tied to transformer installations across the 34 LGAs to improve power distribution.

The government said the approvals demonstrate Governor Radda’s commitment to building “a safer, stronger, and more inclusive Katsina State where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.”
