Katsina Welcomes New Police Commissioner, Promises Robust Security Strategy

The Katsina State Police Command has ushered in a new era with the arrival of Commissioner of Police (CP) Bello Shehu, fdc, who officially assumed office on March 28, 2025.

This appointment, sanctioned by Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, marks CP Shehu as the 26th Commissioner to lead the state’s police force.

Hailing from Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State, CP Bello Shehu brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

A seasoned officer with over three decades of service, he boasts a distinguished career spanning operations, investigations, and administration.

“My commitment is unwavering,” declared CP Shehu upon his arrival.

“I am here to serve the people of Katsina State with integrity and dedication.”

His impressive resume includes stints as a Divisional Crime Officer, Police Public Relations Officer, Aide-De-Camp to both a former First Lady and a State Governor, Unit Commander, and Divisional Police Officer in various states, including Katsina itself.

He also served as Deputy Contingent Commander of the Nigeria Police Contingent in East Timor and as Area Commander in Bida. “My experiences have prepared me for the challenges ahead,” CP Shehu stated.

“I understand the complexities of policing, and I am ready to apply my knowledge to ensure the safety and security of Katsina.”

CP Shehu holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master of Science in Security and Strategic Studies from the Nigeria Defence Academy, Kaduna.

He has also attended numerous professional courses, including advanced detective training, combat courses, and strategic leadership programmes.

He is a member of the Association of International Chiefs of Police and the Nigeria Institute of Management.

“We are fortunate to have an officer of CP Shehu’s calibre leading our police force,” remarked DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, Police Public Relations Officer for the Katsina State Command.

“His extensive experience and commitment to professionalism will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts to combat crime.”

CP Shehu has called for the support of all stakeholders in the state, pledging to work collaboratively to reduce crime to the barest minimum.

“The safety of Katsina State is a collective responsibility,” he emphasised.

“I urge all residents to cooperate with the police and provide us with the necessary information to ensure a secure environment for all.”
