Kebbi Shuts All Schools, Including Polytechnics, Colleges Over Abduction Fears

The Kebbi State Government has directed the immediate closure of all public and private secondary schools, as well as selected tertiary institutions, following recent security incidents in parts of the state.

The decision was announced in a joint statement issued in Birnin Kebbi by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Issa Abubakar-Tunga, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Halima Bande.

According to the commissioners, the closure affects all public, private, and state-owned tertiary institutions except the College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery, located in Birnin Kebbi.

The institutions listed for closure include State Polytechnic Dakingari, Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero, and College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, as well as College of Education, Argungu.

They urged management teams across the affected schools to fully comply with the directive and assured the public that a new resumption date will be announced later.

The commissioners also appealed for calm, saying the government is taking necessary steps to safeguard students and staff across the state.
