Kano State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, is receiving widespread commendation from communities in Sheka and Shagari Quarters for his command’s efforts in combating thuggery and apprehending a notorious armed robbery suspect known as “Barga.”
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the positive feedback follows the launch of “Operation Kukan Kura,” a new initiative to enhance public safety.
Several community organisations, including the Sheka Gidan Kaji Development Association, Shagari Quarters Development Association, and Mu Hadu Mu Gyara Initiative, Sheka, jointly presented appreciation letters to CP Bakori.
“The people of Sheka Quarters now sleep peacefully and with their two eyes closed,” one letter stated, acknowledging the police’s “frantic and tremendous arrest” of the “Yan-Daba” gang that had terrorised the area.
Another letter commended the efforts of the Anti-Daba Squad for “clearance operations carried out against notorious gang leaders who have been terrorising the inhabitants with various forms of crime.”
CP Bakori thanked the communities for their support, emphasising their involvement in policing efforts, especially with “Operation Kukan Kura.” He stated that the fight against crime is a collective responsibility and assured residents of the command’s commitment to public safety.
In a separate development, CP Bakori has ordered a discreet investigation into allegations of corrupt practices against a police officer and two members of the Police Special Constabulary attached to the Sheka Police Division.
The Commissioner assured the public of the command’s commitment to “upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” adding that “anyone found culpable will face the consequences of their actions.”
