The Kwara State Government has dismissed reports claiming that nine local government areas in the state are under siege by bandits, describing the information as “totally false and mischievous”.

Commissioner for Communications Bolanle Olukoju, in a statement issued on October 6, 2025, said no part of the state is under the control or threat of bandits, contrary to viral online claims.

“The unfortunate challenges we have in a few areas do not warrant such wicked escalation and fake news being promoted by opposition elements,” Olukoju said.

She accused those spreading the claims of deliberately instilling fear among residents.

“We have reasonable grounds to suspect that these elements are the online promoters and equivalents of bandits,” she added.

Olukoju also expressed disappointment with Mr Peter Obi, whom she said shared the false information on his social media handles.

“This is not expected from him as a statesman. We urge him to take down the post,” she stated.

The commissioner urged the public to verify information before sharing, warning that false claims could cause panic and make the work of security agencies more difficult.
