The Taraba State Bureau for Local Government, Traditions, and Chieftaincy Affairs has issued a public statement on March 14, 2024, addressing the delay in the payment of February 2024 local government salaries.
The Bureau attributed the delay to a shortfall in receiving the monthly statutory allocation from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
The statement was issued in response to concerns raised by local government council staff throughout Taraba State regarding the overdue payments.
“We have taken note of the concerns expressed by local government staff regarding the delay in their February salaries,” stated Engr. Godfrey Dame Andrew, Permanent Secretary of the Bureau, in the official release.
“We want to clarify that this delay is directly related to the Bureau’s inability to receive the necessary monthly statutory allocation from FAAC.”
The Taraba State government emphasised that the delay was not intentional and reiterated its commitment to the well-being of local government employees.
“The Taraba State government is deeply committed to the welfare of all local government staff,” Engr. Andrew affirmed.
“We assure you that payments will be processed and disbursed as soon as the allocation is received from the Federation Account.”
The Bureau acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the delayed payments and appealed for understanding from the affected staff and the wider public.
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this delay may have caused,” Engr. Andrew concluded.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue and ensure that salaries are paid promptly.”
