Lincoln University Malaysia Kumo Campus Gains NUC Operational Licence

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has officially granted an operational licence for the establishment of Lincoln University Malaysia, Kumo Campus, in Gombe State, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s transnational education drive.

The approval was issued on Monday, November 10, 2025, according to Prof. Yusuf Abdullahi Ribadu, Executive Secretary of the NUC.

Speaking at the licence presentation in Abuja, Prof. Ribadu said the approval followed the Commission’s rigorous assessment under the Transnational Education (TNE) framework, which allows foreign universities to operate in Nigeria through local partnerships.

“Lincoln University Malaysia, Kumo Campus, must uphold international academic standards and serve as a model for transnational education in Nigeria,” Prof. Ribadu stated.

Representing Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Gombe State Deputy Governor Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau received the licence alongside the university’s founder and president, Prof. Dato Hajah Bibi Florina Abdullahi.

Dr Jatau described the approval as a validation of Governor Yahaya’s vision to make Gombe an education hub for the North-East.

“This licence affirms our commitment to positioning Gombe as a citadel of knowledge and a destination for global learning,” he said.

He added that the campus would focus on research-driven education in medicine, technology, and management sciences to address local challenges through innovation.

Prof. Ribadu further disclosed that the university would begin operations with three faculties: Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, Science and Computing, and Management and Social Science.

Prof. Bibi Florina Abdullahi praised the Gombe State Government for its partnership, assuring that Lincoln University would sustain its global standards.

“We are committed to delivering world-class education that transforms communities and empowers youth,” she said.

The event was attended by education stakeholders, including Prof. Sadiq Adamu, Vice-Chancellor of Lincoln University Kumo Campus, and Prof. Sani Ahmed Yauta, Vice-Chancellor of Gombe State University.
