Maiduguri Traders Reject Planned Protest, Embrace Peace, Solicit More Gov’t Support

The E-lkanemi New Market Cooperation Society, comprising 49 shops at Metro Plaza, organized a one-day awareness program against the planned nationwide protest.

The event, themed “Say No to Protest,” took place at the Metro Plaza premises, promoting peace and stability in the city.

Alhaji Babagana Yakolobe, Chairman of the Metro Plaza Traders Association, expressed gratitude to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for rebuilding and restoring hope to Monday Market traders.

He urged traders to disregard calls for protests, emphasizing that Maiduguri traders are peace-loving people.

Yakolobe recalled that the Zulum-led administration had empowered traders with over 2 billion naira after the Monday market was rebuilt. He appealed to the governor for continued support, citing the economic downturn’s impact on traders.

He also called on the federal government and Borno state to ensure absolute peace, tackle insecurity, unemployment, and promote job creation.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Vice Chairman of the Maiduguri Municipal Council, Honourable Baba Shehu Abdulganiu; Representative of G.M Monday Market; P.R.O to Commissioner of Police, N.K Daso, D.P.O Bulabulin Division, M.B Galadima; Sector 3 Commander, NAFDAC Borno Command; S.S.S MMC Command.

The district heads of Maisandari and Gwange, led the traditional leaders among others.

The awareness program demonstrated the traders’ commitment to peace and stability in Maiduguri, rejecting the planned protest and supporting the government’s efforts of rebuilding and restoring peace in the state.
