In a bid to quell the persistent clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in Gubio Local Government Area, the Council Chairman, Hon. Mali Bulama Mali, convened an emergency security meeting.
The meeting, which brought together key stakeholders including the Miyetti Allah group, farmers’ representatives, and security agencies, concluded with the signing of a peace agreement.
The Fulani herdsmen have committed to grazing only on uncultivated lands and avoiding farmland. Conversely, the farmers have pledged to stay away from grazing reserves, cattle routes, and ponds during the next planting season.
The Fulani herdsmen attributed the previous confrontations to the blockage of grazing routes and watering points for livestock.
The chairman commended all parties for their cooperation and expressed hope that the agreement would bring lasting peace to the area.
The Miyatti Allah group also commended Mali for the initiative, noting that it was the first time they had been involved in a fair dialogue to address the issue.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures including the Borno State Chairman of Miyatti Allah, Musa Mamman, Fulani leaders from various communities comprising the leaders (Ardo’s) of U’uda, Bokoloji, Addan Ko’in, Ngutti Yaji, Sulubawa, and also the leaders of Koyam, Shuwa, and Bodayi herdsmen, as well as farmers’ association representatives and security, religious, and traditional leaders.
