Alhaji Bura Mustapha (Alesadiyaye), a renowned sports administrator, has assumed the role of Executive Secretary at the Borno State Sports Council, succeeding the retiring Hajiya Amina Magga.
The handover ceremony took place at the council’s premises in Maiduguri on Monday.
Mustapha, previously a director within the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Empowerment, is known for his significant contributions to grassroots sports, youth engagement, and the overall improvement of sporting standards in Borno State.
During the ceremony, Hajiya Amina Magga expressed gratitude for her successful tenure and urged the council staff to provide Mustapha with their full support.
“You are welcome back home, and we believe in you,” she said. “May Almighty Allah guide and protect you.”
In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Bura Mustapha thanked Magga for her service and called upon the staff to be punctual, respectful, and cooperative.
He pledged to revitalise the Sports Council, focusing on grassroots sports and school games, under the leadership of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
“We must revive the legacy of this council,” Mustapha stated, citing past successes in cycling, handball, hockey, grassroots football, and basketball, where Team Borno represented Nigeria internationally. He emphasised his commitment to replicating these achievements.
Mustapha, who played a key role in Elkanemi Warriors’ recent victory in the Presidential Cup (Challenge Cup), also acknowledged the support of Honourable Saina Buba, Commissioner of the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve,” Mustapha said. “We will work together to elevate sports in Borno State.”
The ceremony was attended by staff from the Borno State Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, who commended the appointment. Highlights included the official handover of leadership and a group photograph.
