The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced a provisional Hajj fare of ₦8.5 million for 2026, pending final negotiations on service contracts.
The announcement came from NAHCON Chairman Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman following a strategic post-Hajj meeting with leaders of State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
The meeting at Hajj House Headquarters focused on reviewing the 2025 Hajj operations and beginning early preparations for the next year.
Professor Usman praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support, noting a federal intervention that allowed Hajj carriers to accept payments in Naira, which shielded pilgrims from foreign exchange fluctuations.
Professor Usman also commended the federal government for directing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to suspend its policy mandating credit card-only payments for the Basic Travel Allowance (BTA). This, he said, prevented many pilgrims from being disadvantaged.
Nigeria has retained its 95,000-slot allocation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the slots for state welfare boards remain unchanged from last year.
Commissioner of Operations Prince Anofiu Elegushi led a discussion on potentially rolling over contracts for the four airlines that operated in 2025. This, he said, would give Nigeria enough time to book airlift slots and avoid bureaucratic hurdles.
Alhaji Idris Almakura, Chairman of the Forum of States Executive Secretaries, thanked NAHCON for the meeting and called for stronger collaboration, improved communication, and timely resolution of pending matters from the 2025 Hajj to ensure a seamless transition into 2026 planning.
