The Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) 8 Division Chapter, under the leadership of Chairperson Mrs. Meg Ndidi Ajose, commemorated International Women’s Day 2025.
The event, themed “Accelerate Action,” had a symposium held at the Headquarters 8 Division Auditorium in Sokoto on March 8, 2025, aimed to highlight the critical roles of women in society and address gender inequalities.
Mrs. Ajose, in her welcome address, described International Women’s Day as a “global movement recognising the importance and roles of women in societal development.”
She emphasised the need to “address gender gaps” and create a world where women have “equal opportunities in all aspects of life.”
“This celebration provides a platform to raise awareness of the challenges facing women globally,” Mrs. Ajose stated, citing gender-based violence, discrimination, child marriage, and inadequate access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
She urged women to become “solution providers” to these pressing issues.
“With the support of government agencies and non-governmental organisations, we hope to achieve substantial results in the near future,” she added.
Major General Ibikunle Ajose, General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, praised women for their “courage and resilience” in maintaining the home front during their husbands’ deployments.
He stressed the importance of nurturing female children and commended Mrs. Ajose for her efforts in organising the event.
The symposium featured lectures by experts on gender equality, women’s empowerment, and personal development. The event concluded with group photographs.
Attendees included members of NAOWA, the Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association, Defence and Police Officers Wives Association, Civil Defence Officers Wives Association, Nigeria Customs Officers Wives Association, captains of industry, and the Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association.
