The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested two suspects following a series of violent clashes between farmers and pastoralists in Farin Dutse, Nasarawa Local Government Area.
The unrest, which began on March 9th, 2025, has resulted in multiple fatalities and property damage, disclosed in a statement by SP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command.
According to the statement, the initial incident involved a dispute between youths and a herder, culminating in the killing of Friday Danladi Jike by Sani Allah Gaba.
Responding to the report, police deployed mobile operatives, who encountered a violent mob attempting to kill Isa Alhaji.
“The victim was successfully rescued and taken to the hospital,” a police spokesperson confirmed.
However, the mob subsequently vandalised a police vehicle and set fire to a Ruga settlement, leading to the deaths of Azumi Allah Gaba and her unborn child.
“During the intervention, our officers faced significant resistance,” the spokesperson stated.
Following a stakeholders’ meeting, two suspects, Usman Magaji and Hon. Ibrahim Usman Kaka, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the attack on police and the attempted killing of Isa Alhaji.
On March 10th, the District Head of Kurudu reported an attack on Farin Dutse village by suspected herders, who set houses ablaze. Police responded, dislodging the assailants.
During this operation, three injured victims were rescued, while six corpses were recovered, identified as Simeon Madaki, Ayawu Senior, Sunday Wa’azu, Vincent Sunday, Taimako Senior, and Filibus Jatau Mai’anguwa.
“Several houses, shops, motorcycles, and a car were also vandalised,” the spokesperson added.
“The area has been reinforced with personnel from the Mobile Police, alongside other police operatives and the military, who are currently patrolling the vicinity,” the spokesperson confirmed.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of all residents and urge the public to remain calm. Efforts are ongoing to arrest all perpetrators.”
