The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) embarked on a joint assessment tour of flood-affected areas in the state on Saturday.
The visit, which covered Nguru, Yunusari, and Bursari Local Government Areas, was aimed at providing relief to thousands of victims displaced by the ravaging floods.
During the assessment, former Senate President Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan commiserated with the victims and commended the state government for its swift response. Lawan pledged a N20 million donation to cushion the plight of the affected residents.

He called on NEMA to intensify relief efforts and assured the victims of the government’s commitment to finding lasting solutions to the perennial flooding.
NEMA’s Zonal Coordinator for Maiduguri, Mr. Suraj, who represented the Director-General, extended condolences to families who lost loved ones and property. He praised SEMA’s efforts and promised to mobilise resources to complement the state’s intervention.

On his part, the SEMA Executive Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Goje, disclosed that over 8,000 people have been affected by the floods across 258 communities in 16 local government areas.
He concluded that the state government has initiated a phased response, with those in camps already receiving initial support.
