The National Executive Committee of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) paid a courtesy visit to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.
The meeting emphasises the critical role of journalists as key stakeholders in the development and progress of Nigerian football.
During the meeting, President Gusau emphasised the value of open communication and cooperation between the NFF and media stakeholders, noting that unity is essential to resolving challenges facing Nigerian football.
โI recognise and appreciate the high importance of media professionals towards the actualisation of our mission and vision to take Nigerian football to new heights of excellence,โ President Gusau stated.
โThere is the need for us to collaborate and synergise better in order for us to be able to implement, seamlessly, strategies that will uplift Nigerian football in the interest of all stakeholders.”
In response, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, President of SWAN, expressed gratitude for the meeting with the NFF leadership and reiterated SWANโs commitment to comprehensive media coverage of the Federationโs programs and initiatives.
โThe NFF, as the supreme governing body of football in Nigeria, has the biggest responsibility for the growth and success of the game in Nigeria,โ Benjamin said.
โThrough our collaboration, SWAN will strive to communicate the activities and accomplishments of the NFF to the broader public, aligning our efforts with the priorities of the federation.โ
The event was attended by several key figures, including Mr. Ayodeji Ogunsakin (Vice President, South-West), Mr. Olayinka Owolewa (Vice President, North-Central), Alh. Lurwanu Idris Malikawa Garu (Ex-Officio), Mr. Biodun Ogundipe (Ex-Officio), Ikenna Okonkwo (Secretary General), and other SWAN officials such as Mr. Femi Amusan, Olufemi Ayorinde (Treasurer), Mrs. Ijeoma Peter Nwante (Financial Secretary), Mr. Chidoka Ndubueze (former Chairman, FCT SWAN), Mr. Kelechi Onwudiwe (Current FCT SWAN Chairman), Mr. Samuel Ahmadu (FCT SWAN Secretary), and Mr. Jacob Okpani (Kaduna SWAN Secretary).
Both the NFF and SWAN have now pledged to build a stronger and more effective partnership that capitalises on their respective strengths. The collaboration will focus on enhancing the profile of Nigerian football and further embedding its significance in the national discourse.
