Nigeria Police Force to Enforce Digitalized Vehicle Registry (e-CMR)

In a move to bolster national security and combat vehicle-related crimes, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) announced the upcoming enforcement of the **e-Central Motor Registry (e-CMR)**. The digitalized system, launching on July 29, 2024, aims to streamline vehicle registration and ownership verification.

The e-CMR serves as a real-time online repository for motor vehicle data. This allows law enforcement to:

• Support investigations and operational activities
• To Combat vehicle-related crimes, like terrorism, kidnapping, and armed robbery
• Track and recover stolen vehicles** more effectively
• To Prevent the sale of stolen vehicles, to unsuspecting buyers

The transition to a digital system offers several benefits for vehicle owners, including: Seamless processing, for changes in ownership, license numbers, engines, and chassis/body information And Faster validation of vehicle genuineness and ownership

Public Registration and Support

Ahead of enforcement, the NPF is urging all vehicle owners and users to register for the e-CMR online at [cmris.npf.gov.ng](cmris.npf.gov.ng).

Police Seek Public Cooperation

The NPF emphasizes its commitment to leveraging technology for public safety. The e-CMR initiative seeks the understanding and support of Nigerians and residents.  The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated the importance of the e-CMR:

“The enforcement of the e-CMR is necessary to ensure a safer and secure environment for vehicle ownership and decimate the trend of vehicle theft… We therefore urge all vehicle owners and users to embrace and key into this initiative promptly for optimum safety and security.”
