The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved a massive redeployment and appointment of senior officers across key command and staff positions in a sweeping shakeup aimed at strengthening leadership and operational efficiency within the Nigerian Army.
The move, announced in a statement on Wednesday by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, is part of efforts to reposition the Army for heightened effectiveness amid growing security challenges nationwide.
Among those affected, Major General Bamidele Alabi now serves as Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), while Major General Jamal Abdulsalam assumes duty at Defence Headquarters as Chief of Defence Operations.
Major General Peter Mala takes charge as Commander, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), and Major General Samson Jiya becomes Chief of Defence Accounts and Budget.
Others include Major General Mayirenso Saraso as Chief of Operations (Army), Major General Isa Abdullahi as Chief of Administration (Army), and Major General Musa Etsu-Ndagi as Chief of Civil-Military Affairs.
The shakeup also affected corps commanders, with Major General Godwin Mutkut now leading the Infantry Corps, Major General Umar Abubakar heading the Armour Corps, and Major General John Adeyemo taking charge of the Artillery Corps.
Field command positions were equally reshuffled, with Major General Saidu Audu appointed Force Commander, Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), NโDjamena; Major General Warrah Idris as Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (North West); and Major General Oluremi Fadairo as General Officer Commanding 82 Division and Commander, Operation UDO KA (South East).
COAS Shaibu charged the newly appointed officers to demonstrate professionalism and loyalty, urging them to โsustain operational momentum, strengthen interagency collaboration, and uphold the Armyโs core values of integrity and excellence.โ
He said the appointments reflect the armyโs renewed drive for discipline, leadership renewal, and a proactive approach to emerging security threats.
