Albashir Goni Usman Goni Idris from Borno State, Nigeria, has secured the second position in the 2024 International Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Senegal.

The event, which drew participants from over 50 countries, saw a Senegalese contestant take the top spot.

Goni Idris’s achievement is a testament to his family’s scholarly legacy, being the son of renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Goni Idris Annayim.

This accomplishment adds to his impressive record of international recognitions, including:  2nd position at the 2017 King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition in Saudi Arabia, 1st position at the 2021 Kenya International Qur’anic Competition and Notable performances in Egypt, Ethiopia, Libya, and other international competitions

Goni Idris’s success brings pride to Nigeria on the global stage, particularly during a time when the country is seeking to make a significant impact in the 2024 Olympic Games.
