The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued its weather forecast for the coming days, predicting a mix of thunderstorms and sunshine across the country from Monday, April 14th, to Wednesday, April 16th, 2025.
According to NiMet’s outlook, released on Sunday in Abuja, the northern region is expected to experience slight dust haze. However, there is a likelihood of afternoon or evening thunderstorms developing in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, and Kaduna States.
Moving to the North Central region, NiMet anticipates sunny skies interspersed with patches of clouds. Residents in Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, and Benue States should also be prepared for isolated thunderstorms, which are most likely to occur during the afternoon or evening hours.
In the southern part of the country, cloudy skies are predicted. NiMet forecasts chances of isolated thunderstorms in the morning for parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom States. As the day progresses, isolated thunderstorms are expected to spread across most areas of the southern regions.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, NiMet foresees sunny and hazy conditions prevailing across the northern states. However, the forecast indicates a continued possibility of afternoon or evening thunderstorms in specific areas, including Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa States.
The North Central region is expected to maintain a pattern of sunny skies with cloud cover. Isolated thunderstorms are again predicted for the afternoon or evening in parts of Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kwara, Plateau, and Benue States.
For the southern states on Tuesday, NiMet anticipates cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine. Morning thunderstorms are likely in parts of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Cross River States, with afternoon or evening thunderstorms expected over a significant portion of the southern regions.
On Wednesday, the forecast for the northern region points towards predominantly sunny skies. However, isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop in the afternoon or evening in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa States.
The North Central region is set to experience sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms likely to occur during the afternoon or evening hours.
In the South on Wednesday, morning thunderstorms are predicted for parts of Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected across most parts of the southern regions.
NiMet has also issued a cautionary note regarding high temperatures expected across much of Nigeria, warning of the potential risk of heat stress.
“The public is advised to stay in well-ventilated, cool spaces, drink plenty of water, and avoid direct sun exposure, especially during peak hours (noon to 3 p.m.),” the agency stated.
Furthermore, NiMet urged residents to maintain good hygiene practices, including regular hand washing, avoiding crowded spaces, and using nose masks to mitigate the risk of infections.
“Strong winds may precede the rains in areas with thunderstorms, so precautions should be taken,” the agency advised.
Airline operators are specifically advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports directly from NiMet for improved flight planning
