Breaking: NLC Condemns Government Response to Protests, Demands Policy Reversal

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a strongly worded communiqué following an emergency meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) to address the ongoing nationwide protests and the deteriorating economic conditions in the country.

The NLC accused the government of mishandling the #EndBadGovernance protests, citing the use of excessive force by security agencies, which has led to the deaths of several protesters.

The labor union also criticized the government’s economic policies, blaming them for the widespread hardship and hunger affecting Nigerians.

Key points from the NLC communiqué include:

Condemnation of government violence: The NLC strongly condemned the use of force against peaceful protesters and called for an independent investigation into the killings.

Demand for policy reversal: The labor union demanded a reversal of government policies that have led to the economic crisis, calling for policies that prioritize the welfare of the people.

Call for dialogue: The NLC urged the government to engage in meaningful dialogue with protesters and other stakeholders to address their grievances.

Declaration of mourning: The NLC announced plans to declare a national day of mourning for those killed during the protests.

The labor union further accused the government of meddling in its affairs and vowed to stop recognizing the Minister of Labour and the Registrar of Trade Unions.

The NLC has called on Nigerian workers to remain united and resolute in their demands for good governance while urging caution and adherence to non-violence during the protests.

The communiqué was signed by NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero and General Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja.
