The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has condemned the abduction of college students in Kebbi State, issuing a strong call for national action in a statement signed by NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero on 18 November 2025.

Ajaero said the incident was troubling, especially given Kebbi Stateโ€™s reputation for regular salary payments, pension settlements and proactive security measures.

โ€œThis attack, despite the stateโ€™s efforts, suggests something more worrying and sinister,โ€ he said. โ€œWe need to think outside the box as a nation.โ€

He noted that Kebbiโ€™s investments in infrastructure and social welfare were meant to reduce tension and prevent incidents of insecurity.

โ€œWe promised after Chibok that this would not happen again, yet here we are,โ€ Ajaero added.

The NLC urged the federal government to strengthen security across the countryโ€™s vast landmass, insisting that rising budget allocations were not translating into safety.

โ€œWhat is wrong?โ€ Ajaero queried.

โ€œThe shrinking physical and psychological spaces in our polity should concern us all.โ€

He stressed that frontline states were already โ€œfacing the fireโ€ and warned that insecurity could spread if not urgently confronted.

โ€œLet us rise as a nation to confront this evil before it consumes us all,โ€ the NLC president said, calling for strong support for Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris as rescue efforts continue.
