The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has assured its customers in the Northeast of the country that power supply will be fully restored by May 27th.
This follows an attack by vandals on four transmission towers along the Jos-Gombe axis, which plunged Gombe, Damaturu, Maiduguri, Yola, Bauchi and Jalingo into darkness.
TCN engineers immediately began work to redistribute available power and reconstruct the vandalised towers.
“We are rebuilding the four towers simultaneously. Progress is evident, with one tower nearing completion,” TCN said in a statement.
Construction on the Jos-Gombe line is expected to be completed by May 20th, while the Damaturu-Maiduguri axis will be finished by May 27th.
TCN is currently wheeling only 38MW to both Jos and Yola Distribution companies, with each receiving 19MW each.
Efforts to take some of the available power to Jalingo was hampered by technical challenges.
The company has apologized for the inconvenience caused by the current situation and pledged to expedite work on the towers.
