Kano Pillars FC secured a narrow 2-1 victory over El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri in a keenly contested northern derby on Wednesday.
The Nigerian Premier League midweek match was played at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano city.
The home side, who had managed just one win from their previous five matches, were under pressure to claim maximum points.
The first half ended goalless despite both teams creating chances to break the deadlock.
Rabiu Ali gave Sai Masu Gida the lead from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute. However, their lead was short-lived as Al-Amin Umar restored parity for El-Kanemi Warriors just four minutes later.
Umar has been in impressive form, scoring three goals in his last three games for the visitors.
However, Rashid Alasan scored the winning goal for Pillars in the 90th minute, securing a crucial victory for the home side.
