The leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) has thrown its weight behind the Super Eagles following their 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw against South Africa.

According to a press release by Director of Information Dr (Mrs) Kehinde Ajayi on Wednesday, the NSC is committed to helping Nigeria qualify for the tournament.

NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko urged the team to remain focused on the task ahead. “The Commission will continue to provide the necessary support to ensure Nigeria’s qualification,” he said.

Dikko also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to sports development.

Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade commended the team’s determination, noting that securing a point away in South Africa was not easy.

He called on Nigerians to “rally behind the team in unity” and believe that the Eagles can still finish the qualifiers strongly.

The Super Eagles’ quest for a 2026 FIFA World Cup ticket remains “on shaky ground” after the draw at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

A 25th-minute own goal by captain William Ekong gave South Africa the lead before Calvin Bassey headed home an equaliser just before halftime.

With the result, Nigeria now has 11 points from eight matches in Group C. Their next fixture is against Lesotho on October 10.
