The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismantled a major illegal mining operation in Nasarawa State, arresting three Chinese nationals in the process.
The NSCDC’s Mining Marshals, a specialised squad, conducted an intelligence-driven operation at a heavily fortified illegal mining site in Rafin Gabas, Kokona Local Government Area.

The site, reportedly protected by compromised security personnel, had operated beyond the reach of law enforcement.

Assistant Commandant John Onoja Attah, Commander of the Special Mining Marshals, reported that his team successfully penetrated the stronghold.
“Our men successfully penetrated the stronghold and arrested 3 Chinese nationals caught in the act of illegal mining activities,” Attah stated, adding that other suspects fled, aided by colluding security operatives.

Attah described the operation as a “major milestone” in the fight against illegal mining. “This marks a major milestone in our relentless battle to sanitise the mining sector,” he said, vowing to “dismantle and arrest illegal mining cabals.”
The illegal mining site has been sealed, and a manhunt has been launched for the fleeing suspects.
“Investigation is ongoing to unravel those behind the heinous crime; we would also prosecute any security operative caught aiding and abetting illicit mining activities,” Attah stated.
The NSCDC has pledged a “relentless onslaught against economic saboteurs”.
