The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gombe State Council, has commended Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for securing regulatory autonomy for the stateโs electricity sector.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Jan. 11, 2026, and signed by the NUJ Gombe State Chairman, Faruk Muazu Gombe.
The union said the formal transfer of electricity regulatory oversight from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to the Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission marked a major milestone toward energy independence and economic growth.
It described the move as a product of the governorโs โvisionary leadershipโ and effective use of the amended Constitution and the Electricity Act 2023.
According to the NUJ, the reform will allow Gombe to set locally responsive tariffs, attract private investment and improve electricity supply to households and businesses.
The council pledged support for the transition and urged stakeholders to cooperate while calling on GOSERC to uphold transparency, professionalism and regulatory independence.
