OPSH Commander Sympathises with Jos Market Fire Victims

The General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), Major General Folusho Oyinlola, met with Jos Terminus market leaders and traders on Friday. 

This was disclosed in a statement released by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer Operation SAFE HAVEN, on Friday, May 9, 2025.

At the meeting in Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, the Commander “sympathised with the market leadership and traders over the loss of goods resulting from the fire outbreak”.

He stressed the need for traders to “adhere to safety measures, especially electrical power”, to prevent recurrence and avoid “excessive risks of a potential fire outbreak in the future”.

Major General Oyinlola stated that “a secure environment is essential for economic growth and development.” 

He encouraged the market leadership to “cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious acts capable of threatening the peace of the market to appropriate authorities for immediate action.”

Alhaji Ibrahim Bako, Chairman of Jos Terminus Market, thanked the Commander for meeting with those directly affected. 

He noted the market’s role as “a rallying point for huge commercial activities, while also uniting people of different religions and ethnic backgrounds.”

The Chairman assured that “the traders would remain ambassadors of peace and help security agencies in their quest to protect law-abiding residents of the state.” 

He also called for “enhanced security for the market general area to reduce crime and prevent any breakdown of law and order.” The meeting concluded with the signing of the visitors’ book and a group photograph.
