Police Arrest 11 Over Killing of Bauchi’s Soje Gang Leader

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested eleven suspects in connection with the brutal killing of Ahmad Lawan, popularly known as Soje, an alleged Sara-Suka gang member from the Sabon Kasuwa area of Bauchi.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmad Muhammad Wakil, the incident occurred on October 2, 2025, when two assailants stormed Soje’s residence and stabbed him in the chest before fleeing.

Police operatives, led by CSP Mubarak Sani Baba, promptly arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), where he was confirmed dead.

The command identified Abubakar Ibrahim (alias Duduwa) and Abubakar Mohammed as the prime suspects. Following the killing, angry youths launched a reprisal attack, torching the home of one suspect.

Police teams from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and Operation Restore Peace (ORP) were deployed to restore order.

One of the suspects, Abubakar Ibrahim, was later caught by quasi-security operatives but was attacked by a mob before being rescued and taken to hospital.

The police listed the names of the eleven arrested suspects, all from various parts of Bauchi metropolis, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine their level of involvement while efforts continue to track fleeing accomplices.

Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu warned parents and community leaders to caution their wards against violence.

“The Command will not hesitate to decisively deal with anyone attempting to disrupt public peace,” he said.

He assured residents that security operatives have been strategically deployed to maintain law and order across the state.
