The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered incriminating evidence following a distress call from a previous kidnapping victim.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Superintendent of Police Rahman Nansel, the Command’s Public Relations Officer.

According to the statement, acting on a report from Jameson Godwill of Ado Village in Karu Local Government Area, who spotted one of his alleged kidnappers, Musa Babagana, at Mararaba Junction, police officers swiftly deployed to the scene and apprehended Babagana and another suspect, Ibrahim Mohammad.

During interrogation, both suspects confessed to being members of a kidnapping syndicate operating in Abuja and its environs, including Dutse Alhaji, Kubwa, Gwarimpa, Madala, and Suleja in Niger State.

They admitted to kidnapping victims, detaining them, and demanding ransom for their release.

Godwill, who, along with his younger sibling, was kidnapped on January 25, 2025, while travelling in a commercial vehicle, recounted the ordeal.

“They robbed us of two mobile phones and sixty-three thousand naira in cash before giving us one thousand naira for transportation back to Mararaba,” Godwill stated.

Items recovered from the suspects include a Toyota Corolla, military uniforms, a military identification card, SIM cards, jackknives, handcuffs, and boots.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, for further investigation and prosecution,” said SP Nansel.

“He also commended the officers for their swift and professional response.”

Cases of robbery, one-chance, and kidnapping have become rampant in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with criminals often operating from neighbouring states such as Nasarawa, Kaduna, Niger, and Kogi.

The FCT Security Committee recently resolved to strengthen collaboration with security operatives in neighbouring states to create a unified strategy for policing the region and prevent criminals from shifting their activities across state lines.
