Police Arrest Suspect Over Emir Sanusi’s Vigilante Killing at Eid Prayers

The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested one individual and launched an investigation into the alleged killing and attack on vigilante members within the entourage of Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II following Eid prayers on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

According to the police press release by the command’s PPRO SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, one Usman Sagiru, 20, of Sharifai Quarters, was arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred at approximately 12:40 pm.

While dispersing from the Eid praying ground, Sagiru and others, who are currently at large, allegedly stabbed Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, who later died from his injuries.

Another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital Kano. Both vigilantes were providing security for the Emir. The statement said.

SP Kiyawa confirmed that The Kano State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the incident and has extended an invitation to Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for interrogation.

The Command also reiterated its ban on all forms of Durbar, warning that anyone found engaging in such activities will face decisive action.

They also emphasised that thuggery (Daba) activities will not be tolerated, and anyone engaging in acts that could breach peace or law and order will be arrested and prosecuted.
