The Nigeria Police Force has refuted claims circulating on social media regarding the presence of terrorists in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), labelling the information as false and misleading.

A press release issued on March 2, 2025, by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, addressed a WhatsApp message alleging the presence of 79 terrorists in Lugbe and the imposition of a curfew.

“The Nigeria Police Force categorically debunks the claims made in the message,” ACP Adejobi stated.

“From intelligence gathered by our teams and other security agencies, there are no terrorists taking refuge in the Lugbe area.”

The statement clarified that the message, falsely attributed to “ACP Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Public Relations Officer (FPRO) Police Command Headquarters, Abuja,” was a fabrication designed to cause panic and destabilise peace in the FCT.

“We believe this message was generated by devious individuals with the intent to create tension and incite panic,” ACP Adejobi asserted.

“We urge citizens to rely solely on official news and information from the Nigeria Police Force’s verified social media handles and reputable news sources.”

The police urged the public to exercise caution when sharing information online and to verify security-related alerts with official sources before dissemination.

“Citizens should disregard news and information not originating from authentic police sources,” ACP Adejobi advised.

“Do not panic due to unverified news circulating on social media.”

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and security of all citizens and residents of the FCT and the country.

“We encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through our emergency contact lines,” ACP Adejobi said.

“The Nigeria Police Force appreciates the cooperation of the public and assures them of our unwavering dedication to protecting lives and property.”
